How a line finds its department
Each department takes some kinds of work (carpet, tile and hard floors, upholstery, air ducts, janitorial, maid, everything else) for some customers (homes, businesses, or both). Each estimate line goes to the first department that takes its work for that customer, so put the narrow ones (Air Ducts) at the top.
Example (Zerorez style): Air Ducts takes air duct work; Residential takes everything else for homes; Commercial takes everything else for businesses; Janitorial / Maid takes janitorial and maid work.
You can pick a different department on any line of an estimate (Department, under the line). An estimate with work for two departments counts in both, with each one's share.
What you get
- Results → By department: proposals, accepted, close rate, revenue and average job for each.
- QuickBooks: pick a QuickBooks class for each department. If QuickBooks tracks classes on each line, every invoice line gets its department's class; if it's one class per invoice, the invoice gets the class of the department with most of the price. Turn class tracking on in QuickBooks first (Settings → Account and settings → Advanced → Categories → Track classes) and make the classes (Settings → All lists → Classes).
Travel, minimums and discounts are shared out in proportion. Sales tax isn't counted as revenue.
Departments don't change who sees what: your techs still see every job.
